Growth Project
*ship – The Startup Festival has been developed in year 2017 with the support of the European regional development fund and the structural funds.

*ship Festival serves as the driving force for the advancement of the regional startup ecosystem. The purpose of the Growth Project is to consolidate the activities organized by the Festival. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the business model creation process and establish international networks in the region, where regional companies are supported by growth and internationalization.


The project aided various programs, given as follows:

Ambassadors program

A powerful and effective network of talented young entrepreneurs and change-makers spread all over the world. The Ambassadors work with students and the startup community in their region to build awareness of *ship, while developing their own network. In other words, the Ambassadors are the driving force of *ship, with the goal of increasing the number of people and organizations involved and engaged in *ship activities.

The 2017 Program received 864 applications from 90 countries worldwide.

Disruption Camp
A revolutionary learning program which brings together companies and students for an intensive two week camp experience, challenging participants to come up with disruptive solutions to be applied in real business cases. For more information, follow the updates on their Facebook page.

Global Startup Challenge
An online competition for aspiring entrepreneurs from all over the world. The aim is to empower people from as many backgrounds as possible, keeping in view the boarder vision of *ship – The Startup Festival, i.e. to connect the next-generation of entrepreneurs with mentors worldwide.

The 2017 Challenge received 656 applicants from 70 countries and involved 929 entrepreneurs worldwide.

Sitra Circular Economy Pop-up Challenge
*ship – The Startup Festival joined hands with Sitra to inspire young people to take part in solving our most pressing global problems by developing business ideas based on a circular economy. The winning teams of the Pop-up Challenge get to take part in *ship – The Startup Festival and earn a 10-day experience full of constructive activities, including a sea office, an intensive hands-on workshop on Marketing & Communications, and meetings with experienced professionals from Sitra and beyond.
