Every year, a new generation of *shipsters arrive and are ready to bring their fresh ideas and energy for organizing *ship Startup Festival.

One huge common feature our interns share is that we are all enthusiastic students who crave for fresh experiences and a chance to express themselves.

“I was browsing through tons of intern opportunities when I bumped into *ship and it felt like a call of destiny”
– Shares Daphne, from event team, whose classmates have been part of *ship crew on previous years.

Meanwhile, Antti, our finance and sponsor intern, claimed:
“*ship really saved my summer since I almost gave up and settled for a 9 to 5 office internship.”

Although the reasons that brought us to *ship are different, we all agree that this is going to be our best summer ever.

The work*ship has already started its journey and these *shipsters have been working with full force. Along the way, in order for us to reach our destination successfully, a tight schedule needs to be established and the whole crew must commit to the execution with all their hearts and souls. The Project Team members, who are in charge of this, have mapped out a detailed plan for our travel ahead.

This year *ship crew navigated to a new “harbour” in the heart of Kotka. Our base of operation is named Xlab Kotka, and it is XAMK’s (South Eastern University of Applied Sciences) working and meeting spot in the city center. We have upgraded our headquarter to a larger and more inspiring environment. We have a kitchen, common spaces with modern facilities which really boost the atmosphere and enable us to be motivated every working day.

“The location is amazing. We can easily access every attraction and convenience that the city provides. And the best thing is everything is within walking distance.”
– Bursts Santtu with exitement, Startup teams technical intern. Santtu has been part of volunteering at *ship for 3 years in a row, now joining the organizing team.

When in need of a break, a walk in many parks of Kotka will definitely give some freshness and relaxation that our minds require to keep our *ship afloat. It is also a big improvement that we are only 5 minutes away from Vellamo – our *ship Startup Festival annual venue. Vellamo Maritime Centre, a museum containing “the stories of the sea and the Kymenlaakso region”.

Probably one of the hardest things for the team leaders is to fulfil every *shipsters’ expectation for the internship.

Jenni, our Partner Team leader, shared her thoughts about the interns: “The interns have just begun their work but they already seem eager and committed. The team clicks so well that aiming toward our ultimate goal feels natural.”

From our interns’ perspective, everything has worked out this far and we are determined to keep our spirits up throughout the whole experience.

The whole *shipster crew is looking forward to making this year’s *ship Startup Festival happen and bring you a memorable summer event for your startup journey! Follow us on Instagram to get more familiar with the organizing team from the upcoming introduction videos.

This year’s *ship Startup Festival will be held on the 1st and 2nd of August at Vellamo Maritime Centre in the city of Kotka.
