*Antti Viitanen, The *ship Captain

What is your goal for *ship?
Get *ship done. I want to see the event grow and develop into a real organization.
How did you get involved?
We were establishing PatteriES with other students when we were asked to join the development of a startup event that became *ship. By giving input into it, it started to feel like my own.
What are you passionate about?
Everything involving entrepreneurship and startups. My passion is to build a great startup culture.
What is your life goal?
Bring about a constructive change in whatever capacity I can, travel a lot and live a happy life.

“Challenge yourself every day, don’t settle for average and do what feels right.”

Momal Mushtaq, Co-Organizer *ship

What is your role at *ship?
Workwise I take care of *ship’s digital and international presence.
What is your goal for *ship?
I see a lot of potential in *ship; I would love to see it grow, expand worldwide and become a truly sustainable organization. Obviously I would love to see it inspire young enthusiasts and change lives.
How did you get involved?
Back in fall 2015, I studied abroad for one semester in Finland. That’s how I got to know Antti and I have been associated with PatteriES since then.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about giving back and living a meaningful life. Somebody had the faith to invest in me and I would like to do so for many others.
What is your life goal?
I hope to continuously improve and become a better person. Along the way, I would love to inspire young people to reach their fullest potential and live their dreams.
Some words of wisdom that you live by?
“Don’t go through life, grow through life.”

I biked 1200km across Germany.

Teijo Javanainen, Stage Manager

Teijo is an Information and Communication Technology student at Häme University of Applied Sciences.
What is your role at *ship?
This year, I am responsible of the program, sales, the content and everything around that stuff.
What is your goal at *ship?
Create atmosphere for co-creation, networking and ensure everybody’s comfort at the event.
How did you get involved?
I ran Startup Summer Camp for PatteriES last summer and got involved with the *ship at the same time. Suddenly I found myself taking care of the stage and also hosting the event.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about entrepreneurship, events and coaching.
What is your life’s goal?
Something around coaching and entrepreneurship
Some words of wisdom that you live by?
Do as much as you can and learn as fast as you can.

I heard about the *ship Festival for the first time in Cambridge 2015 and got interested.

Aletta Purola, Challenge Manager

Helsinki/Ivalo. Service Designer, newly graduate.
What is your role at *ship?
I am the Partnership Coordinator and the Challenge Manager.
What is your goal for *ship?
Make shi* happen and produce an memorable event that will be successful on every scale!
How did you get involved?
I was already co-operating with PatteriES when producing a hackathon – an innovation competition – as part of my final thesis. At some point Antti asked me if I would be interested in working at *ship, as my experience on producing challenge type of events for big companies might be needed. And of course I was thrilled to jump on board and avail this opportunity!
What are you passionate about?
Experiences. People. Things us humans are able to accomplish and create by working together.
What is your life goal?
To learn how to be a better, happier, more conscious human being and to live a life that I can eventually call an adventure!
Some words of wisdom that you live by?
One day life will flash before your eyes – make sure it’s worth watching.
Fun fact
I do aerial and pole acrobatics and I had my own reindeer as a pet when I was a kid!

Sanna Salopaasi, Administration and Finance Manager

Sanna is an International Business student at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences and also working at PatteriES.
What is your role at *ship?
I am a Finance and Administration Manager, that means taking care of the paperwork, contracts and finances.
What is your goal at *ship?
To gain new experience, grow my network and get also others inspired by *ship and towards entrepreneurship.
How did you get involved?
I was a part of PatteriES for over a year and in autumn 2016 Antti said that he wants me to join the *ship team, so that’s shortly how I got here.
What are you passionate about?
Many things, I get excited very quickly.
What is your life goal?
I don’t have a specific goal in life, but I want to gain new experiences, travel a lot and start my own business one day.
Some words of wisdom that you live by?
I think everything happens for a reason and you shouldn’t be afraid of taking the risk and saying yes to it.
Fun fact
I have a dog, Santi, he has a little cute face and I have a motorcycle licence and can’t wait to get my own bike.

Anne-Mari Vuoksi, PR Coordinator

Anne is a Business student at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences focusing on communication.
What is your role at *ship?
I am taking care of the PR and the Finnish side of the media. I am also part of the Media Team and taking care of the Startup Magazine, creating content and so on.
What is your goal for *ship?
My goal is to do my best and learn as much as I can during this summer.
How did you get involved?
I was looking for an internship and applied to *ship.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about health, personal growth and taking care of the environment. I want to do something everyday to reach my goals and passions, one step at a time.
What is your life goal?
My goal in life is to keep learning about the things that I am passionate about.
Some words of wisdom that you live by?
Try new things, that s the only way to find out what works for you and what doesn’t.
Fun fact
I do a lot of voluntary work, because that is a great way to get experience. I am also truly passionate about protecting the environment and living a more sustainable lifestyle.

Jouni Lindfors, Mentor Coordinator

Jouni is from Loppi and studies Business at Laurea University of Applied Sciences.
What is your role at *ship?
I am responsible of the Mentoring Program.
What is your goal for *ship?
My goal is make *ship a nice experience and to improve myself. Also, I want to meet many cool people from around the world.
How did you get involved?
I joined *ship because of Teijo. I was envious of Teijo’s experience last year and I wanted to have that opportunity as well.
What are you passionate about?
I want people to be less ignorant and more open-minded.
What is your life goal?
Figure out what my life goal could be.
Some words of wisdom that you live by?
The only way to achieve the impossible is by trying to do the impossible.

I like riding horses and walking in the forest at night.

Nikolas, Startups Coordinator

Nikolas is studying Industrial Engineering at Aalto University of Technology.
What is your role at *ship?
I am taking care of the Startups and Sponsors for now.
What is your goal for *ship?
Work hard before and have fun during the Festival. I am also looking forward to meeting new people and growing my intangibles.
How did you get involved?
I searched the internet for something staggering to do this summer and the *ship Festival came up.
What are you passionate about?
Technology has always been my passion. I find it fascinating how technological industries constantly make everything cooler. I am also passionate about music.
What is your life goal?
To keep finding things that make me happy.

Fun fact
My hobbies include playing guitar and fencing. I also defeated the Finnish champion in showjumping in an unofficial competition when I was 12.

Susanne, Event and Volunteer Coordinator

Student and an entrepreneur
What is your role at *ship?
I am responsible for Volunteers and will work as an Event Coordinator during *ship. My job is to make sure everyone has enough resources and that things run smoothly during the event.
What is your goal for *ship?
My goal is to guarantee smooth sailing and to keep things interesting and bring something new to *ship.
How did you get involved?
I was interested in working with *ship because it seemed like a great opportunity to learn and do interesting things around entrepreneurship and startups.
What are you passionate about?
Many things, I am keen on dreaming and doing stuff, not just watching it happen.
What is your life goal?
My life goal is to reach the life of my dreams. And remember to live, breathe and be gentle.
Some words of wisdom that you live by?
“There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs.” I think that stairs are a great metaphor for life, because you have to take things one step at the time to achieve long lasting results and if you take too many steps at once, you might fall. Stairs are also great for working out, so they can be used for everything.

Vinh Le, Media Team Coordinator

Studying business administration at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences.
What is your role at *ship?
My role is to coordinate the media team. I am also responsible for Startup Magazine.
What is your goal for *ship?
To spread the *ship spirit through multiple media channels.
How did you get involved?
I actually started my journey at *ship through the Ambassadors Program last December. It has been an amazing roller coaster of learning since then.
What are you passionate about?
I am keen on entrepreneurship and technology stuffs. I am thrilled to see how these two things burnish each other.
What is your life goal?
My life goal is to persistently go through the lifelong-learning process. I desire to dive deeply into my fields of interest and reap as much knowledge and skills as possible.

Bea Brinkas

Bea is studying Business Administration at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences and just returned from exchange in Sweden.
What is your role at *ship?
I am assisting Anne-Mari in the Media Team. We take care of the PR and the Finnish side of the media. I also write articles on the Startup Magazine.
What is your goal for *ship?
To gain experience and grow my network.
How did you get involved?
I got a tip from my university and applied to be a part of the team.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about environmentally-friendly living, fashion and how the environment evolves. I strive to live a healthy lifestyle and love to exercise!
What is your life goal?
I want to increase my knowledge and learn skills and be good to others

Just try your best and hopefully everything will work out well!

Even though I love and want to live in the heart of the city, I am from the countryside and spent my childhood at a farm.

Ngọc Nguyễn (Call me Grace)

Grace is from Vietnam and she is a first-year student at XAMK studying International Business.
What is your role at *ship?
I am an intern at *ship, helping the Media Team.
What is your goal for *ship?
My goal is to gain experience and real knowledge about entrepreneurship, practice for my future career and make *ship become more awesome. I want more and more people to know about *ship.
What are you passionate about?
Entrepreneurship and music
How did you get involved?
I knew about the event through PatteriES. I then applied for an internship.
What is your life goal?
Have a truly meaningful and joyful life.

Our team has a strong background in entrepreneurship and a large skillet comprising of varied interests.
